After many years of operating a building company and designing traditional craftsman bungalows, the owner/contractor/realtor commissioned us to design a contemporary prairie style home. The site consisted of a revered Oak tree of which the program of detached garage/office, carport, residence, and pool developed around. Key elements of flow throughout the project include an integrated view through mudroom to the kitchen and poolside patio barbeque area. Connecting views from kitchen, entry hall, living and dining all extend the central idea of connection to the backyard pool area and northeastern views of surrounding hills. Strategies for heating/cooling kitchen, dining, and family room include passive solar design and extension of roof eave overhangs.
