In the year 2000 these clients purchased a beautifully located residence with zoning restrictions that warranted a complete renovation that included a client driven strict non-toxic construction requirement. This project launched our firm’s non-toxic construction specification development including adherence to the baubiology institute’s standards for mitigating material offgassing, HVAC air pollutants, and reduction of EMF (electromagnetic field) in the home. We implemented strategies, checklists, and accountabilities for contractors and subcontractor coordination throughout the project. We engaged city utility departments to illuminate cause and effect of typical installation of electrical lines and grounding to water supply lines. Our main spatial design featured improvement of the original floor plan by opening spaces between rooms and vaulting the main ceiling.
