The goal of this project was to provide a design to nestle the home into its deeply forested site with minimal disturbance to the surrounding forest for both during construction as well as in its enduring presence on the site. With limited sun access, the southern side of the home has elevated walls and windows in the central dining room to capture views and filtered sun. This main space connects the kitchen to the living room as well as the loft above. On the exterior, an ample wrap around deck allows travel paths during winter snow accumulation. The screened in porch off the master suite and adjacent to the kitchen accommodates both dining and sleeping during the summer months. With a second bedroom that serves primarily as an office and providing a desk alcove in the master suite, this 1330 SF 2 bedroom home with loft is an ideal retreat for the retired couple and a welcoming accommodation for extended family visits.
