This property offered the challenge of a steep lot combined with the beauty and splendor of the natural environment and amazing views. To take advantage of the views and keep the bulk and scale to a minimum, we designed the house with a low slung Prairie-style roof so it nestles into the hillside.

The steep site allowed us to create a spacious lower floor from the extra space provided below the main floor. This space was turned into a bonus room, gym, as well as separate bedrooms and bath for extended family. The crown jewel is the cupola that nestles inconspicuously into the main roof and houses the owner’s private office, which affords expansive valley views.

For the pool area, we created a “U” shaped courtyard that faces south to absorb the warmth of the sun and protects the space from wind. The garage has the capability of opening up to the street as well as the courtyard area, which creates an indoor-outdoor bonus space for social gatherings.
