Relocating for retirement, our client consulted us for purchasing property in Gold Beach that is surrounded by a beautiful forest with a seasonal creek.
The concept was to build two small units – one our client would live in and the other that would potentially be used as a guest house or rental. Part of the design strategy was to offset the owner’s unit and have the guest house/rental on the opposite corner of the living space so, when both units were occupied, they would each have privacy and views. The siting of the house was unique because we had to contend with riparian setbacks of the creek and views of the neighboring house.
It’s always a fun challenge to design structures this small (500 sf and 700 sf), so we kept the form simple but interesting for cost reduction.
